Santa Fe Opera
Madame Butterfly, Tales of Hoffmann, The Magic Flute, & Life is a dream are all on in July. SFO is internationally known for introducing new and innovative operas as well as for its productions of works from the standard operatic repertoire. Since its inception, the Santa Fe Opera has staged over forty American premieres and has commissioned nine new operas. The sides of the house are open, and the rear of the stage may be completely opened to provide westward views. Performances begin close to sunset, so that the lighting of the productions is not compromised by the sides of the theatre being open to the outside environment. More social aspects of the performance starting time include giving opera-goers the opportunity to observe New Mexico sunsets against the surrounding landscape and the tradition of tailgate dining.

Taos is well worth visiting. ( http://www.taosvacationguide.com) You can explore the town as well as go to the local pueblo. It has a name for art & artists. And there is a transport system in the town: The Chile Line (http://www.taosgov.com/transportation/chile-line.htm) and from the taos Visitor Center, you can also take day trips around the area.
Santa Fe is also worth a visit anytime. (www.santafe.org) Santa Fe has some good museums as well as the Georgia O'Keefe Art museum and of course, Santa Fe plaza is well known for its Indian merchants who set up on the pavement outside the Governors Palace.
Pojoaque, just south of Española, has a lovely museum, the Poeh museum and a gallery featuring the works of Roxanne Swentzell. http://www.roxanneswentzelltowergallery.com/
The Eight Northern Pueblos Art & Craft Fair occurs on the 3rd weekend of July, in Ohkay OwingehPueblo, about 10 minutes drive away from us. It is worth a visit, as the artists from the eight pueblos come to show their work. It is not as large as the Santa Fe Indian Market, which takes place in August (18-19) but is still one of the main events of the year here.
